Aurélien Paret-Peintre

"A day of dreams".

"It's a dream day. The most beautiful victory of my career. I fought for a long time to be in the breakaway and I succeeded. On the last climb I hung on. I knew I could beat him in a sprint. Everyone was aware that the breakaway today would certainly play for the win. I had to stay with it. I'm now third overall but I'm not making any big plans. I prepared well for the Giro with an excellent training course in Etna with Mikaël Cherel. This work is bearing fruit.

We'll have to recover now. The Giro is a race that fits the team well. We still have a lot of opportunities to win other stages."

"We still have quite a few opportunities to win more stages.

Didier Jannel

"With panache".

"It's a step that we had checked off before the start. But we still had to do it. Aurélien managed to do it with panache and a good physical shape. It took a lot to get into the breakaway, helped by his teammates. He then showed composure and serenity to manage the stage.
The day had started badly with Paul's withdrawal. This victory does the AG2R CITROËN team a lot of good.

The news

Paul Lapeira, sick, forced to abandon

Paul Lapeira, ill, was forced to abandon during the fourth stage of the Giro d'Italia.
"Paul Lapeira has been suffering from a flu-like syndrome since the third stage of the Giro d'Italia, which forced him to abandon in the first kilometers of the fourth stage. He will take a rest period when he returns to France, before resuming training," said Dr. Cyril Barthomeuf, AG2R CITROËN team doctor.
The 22-year-old rider was racing in his first grand tour. He escaped on the second stage and won the best climber's jersey, which he wore for one day.
